Nokia G21 Review (2022) | Affordable and Reliable

Nokia has always provided us with affordable and reliable smartphones. Nokia has done an excellent job with pricing in recent launches. As with the Nokia G21, the company has aggressively priced and equipped this smartphone.

In India, the segment of 15 thousand rupees continues to be a hot seller. Nokia has been the market leader in this segment at various points with the G series. Once again, the company is making a positive contribution to this segment. As a result, Nokia launched the Nokia G21 in India recently.

Nokia G21 Design

The Nokia G21 has an attractive design, particularly considering its price. Although the phone’s body is polycarbonate, it appears to be quite durable. The phone is constructed entirely of plastic. The back panel features a premium texture that can be felt with the hands. The pattern on the back panel is attractive and provides excellent grip. There is a triple-camera setup at the back, along with an LED flash and Nokia branding.

In terms of design, the Nokia G21 features a water drop display notch on the phone’s front side, which houses the company’s selfie camera sensor. The sides and top of the display have thin bezels, but the phone’s chin is quite thick. In the lower section, you’ll find a USB Type-C port, speaker grill, and primary microphone for charging, while the 3.5mm headphone jack has been relocated to the phone’s upper section.

The phone measures 164.6 x 75.9 x 8.5 mm and weighs 190 grams, which seems a little high. However, the company has maintained a weight balance that makes the device feel comfortable in hand. Although the phone is not particularly heavy, it is unmistakably thick. The camera module is well-built and also has a premium appearance.

Nokia G21 Display

The screen is the most vital part to consider when it comes to smartphones. The Nokia G21 features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 frames per second. The user can always select between 60 Hz and 90 Hz refresh rates. When the brightness is increased manually, the screen reaches a maximum of 400 nits.

The refresh rate is higher than average, the brightness is astounding, and the display panel is an IPS LCD, which is considered a decent display panel. However, it is still a few steps behind because other smartphone manufacturers already offer AMOLED panels in this price range. Although there is no official confirmation of the glass protection, Corning Gorilla Glass, as always, could be used to protect the screen.

Nokia G21 Performance

The Nokia G21 performs admirably, owing primarily to its UNISOC T606 processor. It is a 1.6 GHz octa-core processor manufactured in a 12 nm process which includes two 1.6 GHz Cortex A75 CPUs and six 1.6 GHz Cortex A55 CPUs. Additionally, the Mali-G57 MP1 is equipped with a graphics processing unit (GPU) for gaming.

The phone, which runs on the latest version of Android 11, provides a near-stock Android experience. It is a standard processor that easily handles routine tasks. Apart from routine tasks, it is not capable of heavy multitasking or gaming. The processor included with the phone is insufficient for extended gaming. Nokia G21 comes with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB of standard eMMC 5.1 storage.

Camera

At this price level, the camera setup included in the phone is quite good. The triple camera is located on the phone’s backside, which features a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 2-megapixel macro sensor, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. A front-facing 8MP camera has been included for taking selfies. Although the quality is poor in low light, the night vision mode performs admirably here, and you will see excellent results.

The phone’s camera has a variety of modes. The camera app on the phone is straightforward to use, and users can access a variety of camera modes, including Portrait, Cinemagraph, Time Lapse, and Slow Motion. The macro lens works perfectly well here, but even so, adequate lighting is required. When it comes to taking selfies with the selfie camera, the quality is excellent in daylight. However, the quality will disappoint you when taking selfies in low light or at night.

Battery

A Li-polymer dual-cell battery with 5050mAh powers the Nokia G21 smartphone. This battery is capable of rapid charging at a rate of 18W. The battery pack is ideal for the Unisoc T606 chipset and 4 GB RAM. When used continuously throughout the day for multitasking, travelling, gaming and video streaming, the Nokia G21’s battery can provide a full day’s backup.

However, the battery charges completely in three hours. The box includes an 18W power adapter and a Type-C USB cable. It’s unsurprising if this phone lasts even two days with moderate usage. It can provide a battery backup for approximately one day, even with mixed-use.

Conclusion

The Nokia G21 is a good smartphone, but it could have been even better with a more powerful processor. This is a clean and pure stock Android experience, complete with a triple camera and a massive battery life. Although the phone’s IPS LCD makes gaming a little grittier, the processor also prevents you from gaming better.

All components, including the design, display, performance, and software, are impressive. If you prefer more gaming or are having issues with the IPS display, you can consider other options. Otherwise, it is the best option for high-quality photography, a simple interface, and routine work.
