OnePlus Nord 2 Review: High Performance Phone in Budget

Published on June 19, 2022

OnePlus smartphones have always been liked for their design, the best camera quality and configuration. Recently, the company’s new OnePlus Nord 2 was released, in which the design and look have entirely changed. This smartphone is considered a classic, premium-looking, high-performance smartphone in the mid-budget range. Read on for our OnePlus Nord 2 Review and to know more about OnePlus Nord 2 Specs.

OnePlus Nord 2: Design

OnePlus Nord 2 has a dual-glass design, where its front glass is flat and edges are curved at the back. It has Gorilla Glass 5 panels on both sides, and the inner chassis is made of aluminium. Despite having a plastic body, the glass cover has been fitted so that the entire body of the phone looks glossy.

The measurement is 15.9 x 0.8 x 7.3 cm, and the weight is 190 grams, which is significantly less, so carrying it in one hand will not be a problem. The phone is relatively thin, and the thickness is only 0.82 cm. The corners of the phone are round, which make it look great. The company’s hologram is embedded in the center of the back panel. A triple camera setup and flash feature in this phone.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is available in three colour options; Blue Haze, Wood Green and Light Grey. It looks very premium and shiny when you hold it in your hand. It feels pretty unique compared to previous Nord models.

OnePlus Nord 2: Display

OnePlus Nord 2 comes with a 6.43″ Fluid AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080p (409pp), 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. The user can always choose between a 60 Hz and 90 Hz refresh rate. If we manually maximise the brightness, the screen reaches a maximum of 438 nits of brightness.

The refresh rate is more than usual, the brightness is incredible, and Fluid AMOLED is present in the display panel, which is considered to be the best display panel. For screen protection, Gorilla Glass 5 is used on front and back panels.

OnePlus Nord 2 Review: Performance

OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone is available in two variants. The first model has 8GB RAM with 128GB of internal storage. The second model has 256GB of memory with a high-end 12GB of RAM. There is no option to increase the memory here, which feels strange.

It is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI octa-core chipset, one of the fastest smartphone CPUs. ARM G77 MC9 technology has been used as a GPU.

We saw this phone running non-stop for several hours; neither the speed nor the brightness decreased. The mobile’s touch is smooth and multitasking, moving from one application to another, phone gaming, face unlock, everything is fast. Faster than 8GB is the 12GB model. For those who do all their work on the phone or do video editing or graphics, the 12GB model will be suitable.

OnePlus Nord 2 Camera

The OnePlus Nord 2 packs a powerful new sensor from Sony. A 50MP camera on the rear with an optical image stabilisation setup, an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s also a dual-LED/dual-tone flash. The front camera includes a 32MP Sony sensor. It comes with features like multi-autofocus, 4K 30fps video recording, 10x zoom, and AI enhancements. Its results are robust and surprising.

Sony’s camera is known for its brightness and picture quality. You’re going to have fun taking pictures with the 50-megapixel primary camera. The 8-megapixel camera is fine too, but it would have been better if the performance of the 2-megapixel depth camera had been increased.

Here a fantastic feature is given in the camera application. You can take photos and videos simultaneously on a half-half screen with front and rear cameras.

OnePlus Nord 2 Review: Battery

The OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone has a 4500mAh capacity Li-polymer dual-cell battery. This battery supports Warp Charge 65W technology. The battery is weak considering the 8GB and 12GB RAM. Using the Oneplus Nord 2 all day with multitasking, travelling, gaming, and video streaming, its battery could give a backup of only one day.

There is no wireless charging support in the OnePlus Nord 2. However, the battery gets fully charged in just 30-35 minutes. Warp Charge technology should be given credit for this feature. A 65W power adapter and 6.5A-rated Type-C USB cable is provided in the box.

Software and Connectivity

This handset of the OnePlus runs on OxygenOS 11.3 operating system based on Android 11. The Quick Launch feature allows you to open private apps simply by placing your finger on the scanner. OxygenOS supports various icon packs, so if you are not satisfied with the default icon pack, you can replace it with your favourite icon pack, which you can also fully customize.

Regarding connectivity, 4G LTE, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/A-GPS/NavIC, NFC, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, HotSpot, and USB Type-C port are present here. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor, and the optical sensor works pretty well, too; it is much faster and more accurate. The user can unlock the phone by facial recognition as well.

Final Verdict

The OnePlus Nord 2 delivers high-end performance with a bright and colourful 90 Hz Fluid AMOLED display better than its predecessors. Along with good image and video quality, powerful stereo speakers, long battery life with fast charging, and flagship MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset. It’s all housed inside a well-designed body, which is pretty impressive. It comes with an excellent design and excellent build quality. You can buy this phone from Flipkart.

Overall, a classic, premium-looking, high-performance smartphone in the mid-budget range, the Oneplus Nord 2 is the best smartphone. The design, display, performance and software are all impressive. But there is no option to expand the storage here. To listen to music on the earphones, the user will need to purchase the wireless product separately because the audio jack is missing on this smartphone.
